Yemeni Official: Prisoner Exchange Agreement to Determine Fate of War Victims

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Abdulqader Al-Murtada, head of the National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs affiliated with Yemen‘s Ansarullah movement, stated that the agreement on prisoner exchange and the handover of remains will establish field committees. This process could help determine the fate of thousands of missing individuals.
Al-Murtada emphasized the significance of the agreement, noting that forming such committees is a crucial step toward transparency in resolving the cases of the missing. However, he declined to provide details on the committees’ operational mechanisms, composition, or timeline.
The Yemeni government in Aden, backed by Riyadh, and the Sanaa-based government, aligned with Ansarullah, have agreed to exchange approximately 3,000 prisoners. Al-Murtada confirmed on Wednesday that the deal involves swapping 1,700 detainees held by Ansarullah for 1,200 prisoners from the opposing side, including seven Saudis and 23 Sudanese.
He also expressed gratitude to Omani officials for hosting the negotiations and facilitating their success.
