Gaza’s Hunger Crisis Worsens Despite Ceasefire, Palestinian Officials Warn

Palestinian officials report that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza remains dire more than two months after the ceasefire, with over 90% of residents unable to meet basic needs due to severe shortages and soaring prices.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate despite the ongoing ceasefire, with Palestinian officials warning of escalating hunger and health crises. Amjad al-Shawa, director of the Palestinian NGO Network in Gaza, stated that the Zionist regime has confined hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians to just 41% of Gaza’s territory under harsh and inhumane conditions.

Over half a million people in Gaza have lost their homes, with thousands living in the rubble of destroyed buildings. Severe shortages of goods and food, skyrocketing prices, and the collapse of livelihoods have left more than 90% of Gaza’s population unable to secure basic necessities. Al-Shawa emphasized that the limited aid allowed into Gaza by the Zionist occupiers has done little to alleviate the crisis, offering no hope for improved living conditions.

The health crisis has also intensified due to accumulating waste and the destruction of water and sewage networks. Al-Shawa noted that the Zionist regime imposes strict restrictions on essential goods entering Gaza, including basic food items, proteins necessary for growth, eggs, and fresh produce. This has had a particularly negative impact on children and pregnant women.

UN reports indicate that 70% of children in Gaza are born underweight or prematurely, with nearly 100,000 children and thousands of pregnant women expected to suffer from severe malnutrition by April 2026. Additionally, 77% of Palestinians in Gaza are trapped in a cycle of hunger, with 90% going entire days without regular access to food.
