Niger Suspends Visa Issuance for U.S. Citizens in Reciprocal Move

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Niger has halted the issuance of visas to U.S. citizens in a reciprocal measure following Washington’s restrictions on Nigerien travelers. A diplomatic source revealed that the decision, finalized this week, suspends all types of visas for Americans and bars their entry into Niger indefinitely.
The move comes after the U.S. imposed visa restrictions on Nigerien citizens, which authorities in Niamey deemed discriminatory and necessitating a response. Niger’s decision aligns with the principle of diplomatic parity and underscores its commitment to national sovereignty, reflecting a shift in its foreign policy approach.
Previously, the U.S. announced comprehensive travel restrictions targeting citizens from seven countries, including Niger, with stringent visa limitations also applied to nationals from 15 additional countries.
