Venezuela Thanks Russia for Condemning US Military Actions in the Caribbean

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil publicly thanked Russia for its steadfast support in defending Venezuela’s sovereignty against US military actions in the Caribbean. In a Telegram post, Gil conveyed President Nicolas Maduro’s appreciation for Russia’s backing amid increasing regional tensions.
Gil emphasized Russia’s consistent role in maintaining peace and stability in the region, both economically and politically. This statement followed Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s condemnation of US destabilizing actions around Venezuela during a December 25 press briefing.
Meanwhile, the Caribbean has seen heightened tensions due to the US deploying significant military assets, including the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier, a nuclear submarine, and over 16,000 troops. Since September, US forces have sunk at least 20 speedboats in international waters, resulting in over 80 deaths. Washington claims these individuals were involved in drug trafficking.
Additionally, the US has imposed sanctions on Venezuelan oil tankers and blocked the country’s airspace. American media outlets have speculated about potential strikes on drug cartel-linked facilities in Venezuela.
In response, Russia has repeatedly urged Washington to adopt a realistic approach, warning that continued aggressive US policies could have dangerous consequences for the entire region.
