Israel Recognizes Somaliland’s Independence, Establishes Diplomatic Ties

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Israel has officially recognized Somaliland and agreed to establish full diplomatic relations with the breakaway region. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar confirmed that the two sides signed an agreement to exchange ambassadors and open embassies.
Sa’ar stated that the agreement followed a year of negotiations. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu extended an invitation to Somaliland’s leader Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi during a video conference call, urging him to visit the occupied territories.
Netanyahu described the agreement as a significant opportunity to expand cooperation between the two parties. The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office noted that the deal was reached within the framework of the Abraham Accords.
Israeli media had previously reported that Somaliland was being considered as a potential relocation site for Palestinians from Gaza. Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but has not been recognized by any United Nations member state until now. The breakaway region controls the northern part of Somalia.
