Afghanistan and Tajikistan Agree to Closer Cooperation Amid Border Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Afghanistan‘s acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi expressed concerns over attempts to damage relations between Afghanistan and Tajikistan during a speech marking the anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Muttaqi emphasized that some parties are trying to create an atmosphere of instability between the two nations.
Muttaqi revealed that discussions with Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister have led to an agreement for closer cooperation to prevent the recurrence of border incidents. This comes as Tajikistan has reported three alleged attacks originating from Afghan soil over the past month.
The Afghan Foreign Minister affirmed Afghanistan’s readiness to defend its territory and protect its national interests in negotiations. ‘We don’t want Afghanistan to become an arena for negative competition among major powers again,’ Muttaqi stated, adding that the country aims to become a hub for economic connectivity.
Muttaqi confirmed that serious investigations have been launched into the recent incidents near the Tajik border.
