Venezuela Strongly Opposes Netanyahu’s Recognition of Somaliland

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Venezuela‘s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Saturday, reiterating its full and unconditional recognition of the Federal Republic of Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. The statement emphasized Caracas’s adherence to and support for United Nations Security Council and African Union resolutions that respect Somalia’s territorial integrity.
The statement came after Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced on Friday that Israel and Somaliland had signed an agreement to establish full diplomatic relations, including the appointment of ambassadors and the opening of embassies. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had earlier invited Somaliland separatist leader Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi to visit the occupied territories during a video conference call.
Israeli media had previously reported that Somaliland was among the options considered by the regime for the forced relocation of Palestinians from Gaza. Somaliland separatists declared independence from Somalia in 1991, but no United Nations member state has recognized their sovereignty. The separatists control the northern region of Somalia.
