Russian Duma and US Congress Agree to Hold Joint Meeting

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the Russian State Duma’s International Affairs Committee and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, announced that Russian lawmakers and members of the US Congress have agreed in principle to hold a joint meeting. The specifics regarding the time and venue will be determined in the near future.
Slutsky emphasized that Russia is not interested in meetings without tangible outcomes or symbolic handshakes meant only for media coverage. He stated that advancing national interests and ensuring the country’s security should be the primary objectives of such engagements.
Earlier, Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian President’s special representative for foreign investment and economic cooperation, revealed that Moscow and Washington are in discussions about the possibility of a meeting between delegations from the US Congress and the Russian State Duma.
Relations between Russia and the US have deteriorated under Democratic President Joe Biden, following a period of closer ties during the presidency of Donald Trump, whose rapport with Russian President Vladimir Putin helped reduce mutual distrust.
