Russia and Ukraine Agree to Temporary Ceasefire at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has brokered a temporary ceasefire between Russian and Ukrainian forces at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to facilitate critical repairs to nearby power lines.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced a temporary ceasefire between Russian and Ukrainian forces at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The agreement aims to create conditions for repairing vital power lines near the facility.

In a statement, the IAEA confirmed that its teams are monitoring the repair work, which is expected to take several days. The move is part of ongoing efforts to prevent a nuclear incident amid the nearly four-year-long conflict.

The statement quoted IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, who thanked both sides for agreeing to what he called a ‘temporary window of silence.’ This pause will allow the resumption of electricity transmission between the plant’s switching stations.

Russian forces have controlled the Zaporizhzhia plant since March 2022. Kyiv and Moscow continue to accuse each other of targeting the facility during the war.
