East African Group Reaffirms Support for Somalia’s Sovereignty Amid Israeli Recognition of Somaliland

The East African Community (EAC) has reiterated its commitment to Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity following Israel’s controversial recognition of Somaliland as an independent state.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the East African Community (EAC) has issued a formal statement reaffirming its support for Somalia‘s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. The regional bloc emphasized that Somalia remains a unified nation under the Federal Government’s authority and called on all parties to respect its legal frameworks and security.

The statement comes in response to Israel’s recent recognition of Somaliland as an independent country, a move that has drawn widespread condemnation from regional, Arab, Islamic, and global nations. Critics argue that Israel’s decision violates international law and undermines Somalia’s territorial integrity.

On Friday, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced that Israel and Somaliland had signed an agreement to establish full diplomatic relations, including the exchange of ambassadors and the opening of embassies. Sa’ar stated that the agreement followed a year of negotiations.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also extended an invitation to Somaliland’s separatist leader, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, to visit the occupied territories during a video conference call.
