Trump Announces Progress in Ukraine-Russia Peace Talks Following Meeting with Zelensky

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that he held a constructive meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, expressing confidence that the two nations are close to reaching a peace agreement with Russia. Trump emphasized that while challenging issues were discussed, nearly 95% of the terms have been resolved.
Trump acknowledged that a few complex matters remain unresolved, particularly concerning the status of the Donbas region, which Russia has demanded Ukraine cede. He suggested that Russia should moderate its demands, stating, “The time to end the war has come, but the territorial issue remains complicated.”
Zelensky confirmed discussions with Trump on security guarantees, describing them as a key component for achieving lasting peace. He noted significant progress in this area, with most guarantees already in place. However, he stressed that working groups need more time to finalize details to ensure Ukraine’s interests are protected.
Trump also mentioned his dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding a nuclear power plant, clarifying that Putin is cooperating with Ukraine to reopen the facility and did not target it with missile strikes. A U.S. delegation, including Special Envoy Steve Witkaf, Jared Kushner, and officials from the State and Defense Departments, will assist in finalizing the agreement.
Trump expressed optimism, stating that a deal could be reached within weeks if negotiations proceed smoothly, and suggested a potential future meeting between Putin and Zelensky.
