Iraq’s National Political Council Nominates Candidate for Parliament Speaker

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraq‘s National Political Council announced on Sunday that it has nominated Hibet al-Halbousi as its candidate for the position of Parliament Speaker. The decision was made following extensive consultations among the leaders of political factions and parties that form the majority within the council.
Khamis al-Khanjar, head of the Al-Siyada Party, stated during a press conference that the nomination reflects the consensus of the majority of Sunni representatives in the council. He called on all political leaders to support this decision to facilitate the completion of legal requirements and the formation of a government representing all segments of Iraqi society.
The council convened its meeting on Sunday evening at the residence of al-Khanjar, who leads the Al-Siyada coalition. The Iraqi Council of Representatives is scheduled to hold its inaugural session on Monday to elect the Parliament Speaker and deputies for the sixth parliamentary term.
