UN Reports 10,000 More Displaced in Sudan Over Three Days Amid Escalating Conflict

The United Nations has reported that an additional 10,000 people have been displaced in Sudan within three days, as Rapid Support Forces seize control of key areas in Darfur and South Kordofan.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM) has documented the displacement of over 7,000 people from the towns of Um Baru and Karnoi in North Darfur, which were recently captured by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The organization also reported that more than 3,000 individuals fled Kadugli in South Kordofan, a city currently under RSF siege where residents are suffering from famine.

Field displacement teams monitored the movement of 780 people from Al-Dalang in South Kordofan state between last Wednesday and Friday due to escalating insecurity. Additionally, the IOM estimated that 510 residents of Al-Sinjoqi village in Um Dam Haj Ahmad locality, North Kordofan state, were displaced due to security concerns.

The RSF announced control over Abu Qamra and Um Baru in North Darfur last Wednesday. The paramilitary group now holds five Darfur states in western Sudan, with only parts of North Darfur remaining under army control.

On December 18, the IOM reported that displacement figures across three Kordofan states ranged between 50,000 and 445,000 people from October 26 to December 17. Sudan’s crisis, which began in April 2023 between the army and RSF, has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced 13 million people.
