China Conducts Military Drills Near Taiwan, Cites Response to Foreign Interference

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, China has launched military drills near Taiwan, framing them as a direct response to foreign interference in its internal affairs. Lin Jian, spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, stated that the exercises by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) are essential to safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Lin emphasized that these actions are a firm countermeasure against foreign forces arming Taiwan and escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait. He criticized Taiwan’s separatist relations with the U.S., warning that Taipei’s actions risk turning the island into a powder keg.
The PLA deployed army, navy, air force, and missile units for the ‘Justice Mission 2025’ drills around Taiwan. The Eastern Theater Command announced live-fire exercises in five zones near Taiwan, imposing air and sea restrictions for 10 hours starting at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
This marks the sixth round of Chinese military exercises near Taiwan since 2022, following a U.S. announcement of an $11.1 billion arms sale to Taiwan. The PLA plans to use fighter jets, bombers, drones, and long-range missiles in simulated multi-directional attacks on the island.
A spokesperson for the Eastern Theater Command called the drills a stern warning to Taiwan’s separatist forces and foreign interveners. While China previously conducted port-blockade exercises near Taiwan, this is the first time it has openly stated the drills aim to deter foreign military intervention.
