Kremlin: Ukraine Must Withdraw from Donbas to End Conflict

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Kremlin has declared that Ukraine must withdraw its military forces from Donbas to end the ongoing conflict. Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Russian Presidential Administration, emphasized this condition in a statement on Monday, adding that Russia currently cannot evaluate the results of the recent talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida. Peskov noted that relevant details will be discussed in an upcoming conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump.
Peskov further stated that Moscow agrees with Trump’s assessment that peace in Ukraine is now significantly closer. He also highlighted growing dissatisfaction within the European Union over some leaders’ willingness to prolong the war and burden taxpayers. Peskov warned that EU leaders would face challenges in upcoming elections due to these policies.
The Kremlin spokesperson reiterated that Kyiv’s withdrawal from Donbas is essential for ending the conflict, adding that Russia is assessing the situation within the framework of achieving its objectives. Peskov clarified that Putin and Trump did not discuss a potential ceasefire during their phone call on January 7, and there are currently no plans for a conversation between Putin and Zelensky.
