UN Describes Dire Humanitarian Crisis in War-Torn El Fasher, Sudan

A UN delegation visiting the besieged city of El Fasher in Sudan’s Darfur region has reported catastrophic humanitarian conditions, with civilians enduring unsafe and inhumane living conditions amid ongoing conflict.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a United Nations delegation has described the situation in the war-torn city of El Fasher in North Darfur, Sudan, as catastrophic. The UN team, during its first visit to the besieged city, reported severe humanitarian suffering among the remaining civilian population.

The delegation’s findings indicate that civilians in El Fasher are living in unsafe and inhumane conditions. The city fell under the control of Rapid Support Forces in October following a 500-day siege, during which numerous atrocities were committed against residents.

The UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Sudan emphasized that El Fasher has become a scene of crime and violence. Sudanese civilians in the city are reportedly living under plastic shelters without access to water or sanitation services.

Violent clashes between the Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces erupted across multiple regions of the country in April 2023, marking the beginning of the current conflict.
