Samsung Secures US Export License for Chipmaking Equipment to China

According to the Economic Desk of Webangah News Agency, the US government has granted Samsung Electronics a limited authorization to export chipmaking equipment to its Chinese facilities. This comes as the Biden administration implements stricter annual validation systems for semiconductor technology exports to China.
Washington’s new export controls, designed to limit China’s access to advanced American technology, include exemptions for South Korea’s Samsung and SK Hynix as well as Taiwan’s TSMC. However, these temporary waivers under the Validated End-User status will expire on December 31, after which all chipmaking equipment shipments will require individual US export licenses.
Industry sources indicate that President Donald Trump’s administration is reviewing export control measures it considers too lenient under previous policies. The move particularly affects memory chip manufacturers, with Samsung and SK Hynix relying heavily on Chinese production bases for chips experiencing rising demand from AI data centers amid global shortages.
