Romania Joins U.S.-Led Arms Procurement Program for Ukraine with €50 Million Commitment

Romania has allocated €50 million to purchase weapons for Ukraine under a NATO-backed U.S. initiative, as Washington and Moscow continue negotiations to end the war amid accusations of European obstruction.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Romania has pledged €50 million to buy arms for Ukraine under the U.S.-led ‘Prioritized Needs List’ mechanism, which allows NATO members to procure American military equipment. The Romanian Foreign Ministry confirmed the move in a statement, aligning with a broader NATO initiative launched by U.S. President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte on July 14. The program replaces free or credit-based U.S. arms deliveries to Kyiv, enabling European NATO members and Canada to purchase American weapons through NATO structures.

Meanwhile, the U.S. and Russia are engaged in talks to end the Ukraine war, with both Moscow and Washington accusing European nations of undermining peace negotiations. The U.S. has conditioned military aid to Ukraine on European compliance and announced the withdrawal of its troops and equipment from Europe, pressuring the continent to bolster its defenses. In response, European countries have increased defense budgets and are reviving their military industries amid fears of facing Russia alone.
