Russian Diplomat Urges Europe to Revise Policy Towards Moscow Amid Sanctions

A senior Russian diplomat has stated that Europe will eventually be forced to change its policy towards Russia, emphasizing that strained relations are not permanent and could shift with new EU leadership.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Vladislav Maslennikov, Director of the European Affairs Department at Russia‘s Foreign Ministry, asserted in an interview with Izvestia that Russia-EU relations will not remain strained. He suggested that a change in European Commission leadership could alter the current dynamic.

Maslennikov stated, ‘I do not believe Russia-EU dialogue is lost forever. The European Commission is always elected for a specific term, and the current commission has its mandate period. After its conclusion, a new commission will be chosen.’

The Russian diplomat expressed hope that the EU would eventually recognize that sanctions against Russia primarily harm European interests. ‘Sooner or later, they will have to reconsider their approach because Russia will remain their neighbor permanently,’ he added.
