Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq Honors Qasem Soleimani as a Transnational Figure on Sixth Anniversary of His Martyrdom

Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq, Mohammad Kazem Al-e Sadegh, praised the late General Qasem Soleimani as a figure transcending national boundaries during a memorial ceremony in Baghdad, marking six years since his assassination by U.S. forces.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Iraq held a commemoration ceremony in Baghdad on Wednesday to honor the sixth anniversary of the martyrdom of the victorious commanders, including the martyred General Qasem Soleimani, Haj Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and their fellow martyrs.

Iran’s Ambassador to Baghdad, Mohammad Kazem Al-e Sadegh, one of the speakers at the event, stated that the relationship between the martyred General Soleimani and Iraq went beyond military and political frameworks, rooted instead in love, loyalty, and sacrifice.

Al-e Sadegh added that Soleimani, with a heart full of devotion to the Ahl al-Bayt (AS), often expressed his wish: “If I ever desired martyrdom once in Iran or Lebanon, I would wish for it a hundred times in Iraq, defending its soil.” His wish was ultimately fulfilled on Iraqi soil, where his blood mingled with that of his comrade, the martyred Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, at the hands of American treachery.

He emphasized that Soleimani viewed the security of Baghdad as inseparable from that of Tehran, describing him as a figure who transcended ethnic divisions and belonged not only to Iran but to the broader Islamic world.

Al-e Sadegh also highlighted the role of the religious authority in Najaf, whose fatwa rescued Iraq from the grip of terrorism and paved the way for the formation of the Popular Mobilization Forces, a source of pride for Iraq and a powerful arm of the Islamic Ummah.

The ambassador further stressed that Iran and Iraq form a unified front against destructive projects, with their solidarity stronger than media efforts to undermine it. He concluded by praying for mercy and forgiveness for all martyrs of the Islamic Resistance Axis in Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Yemen, and Palestine.
