Mossad’s Infiltration into Sulaymaniyah: The Story of Qubad Talabani’s Jewish Wife

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, an informed Iraqi source disclosed that Mossad, as part of its operations prior to the fall of Saddam Hussein’s regime, approached Qubad Talabani—the youngest son of Jalal Talabani—while he was studying in the United States. The Israeli intelligence agency facilitated his marriage to Sheri Graham, a Jewish woman whose father was a prominent American Jewish figure and a member of the AIPAC lobby.
Sheri, who was several years older than Qubad, had previously handled Iraq-related files at the U.S. State Department. Mossad reportedly convinced Qubad to marry Sheri, aiming to exploit AIPAC’s influence and her family’s connections to penetrate the “new Iraq.” After their marriage, the couple returned to the region under Mossad’s guidance, settling in Erbil as Sheri allegedly despised Sulaymaniyah, viewing it as a hub of Iranian influence.
With covert support from Mossad and AIPAC, Qubad ascended to the position of Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region. Sheri, meanwhile, established the SEED Foundation and several NGOs focused on human rights, feminism, LGBTQ+ issues, and violence against women, while also working to normalize Iraq-Israel relations.
The couple has two children—a daughter and a son—who are considered Jewish due to their mother’s heritage, making them the Jewish grandchildren of “Mam Jalal.” Recent tensions between Bafel Talabani and Qubad Talabani (Jalal Talabani’s sons) have escalated, with Mossad allegedly backing Qubad to replace Bafel, aided by the Barzani family, particularly Nechirvan Barzani.
This maneuver could effectively place Sulaymaniyah and Baghdad’s Green Zone—regarded as Iran’s strategic backyard—under Israeli influence. A lingering question remains: while Islam permits marriage to women of the Book, why did Jalal Talabani conceal the fact that his son married into a Jewish family?
