Hamas Military Commander Mohammad Sinwar, Architect of Al-Aqsa Storm, Martyred in Gaza

Senior Hamas military leader Mohammad Sinwar, a key figure behind the Al-Aqsa Storm operation and brother of Hamas Gaza chief Yahya Sinwar, has been martyred after years of targeted Israeli assassination attempts, according to the group’s armed wing.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Mohammad Sinwar, a top Hamas military commander and strategic architect of the October 2023 Al-Aqsa Storm operation, has been martyred in the Gaza Strip. The 50-year-old leader, known as the ‘Shadow Man’ for his elusive tactics against Israeli forces, was among several senior Qassam Brigades officials recently announced as martyrs by Hamas’s military wing.

Sinwar rose to prominence during the Second Intifada in 2000, eventually commanding the Khan Younis Brigade and joining Gaza’s Military Council. Israeli intelligence had long targeted Sinwar, accusing him of masterminding the 2006 operation that captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. His death follows years of failed assassination attempts by Israeli forces.

The martyred commander maintained close operational ties with Qassam Brigades’ late military chief Mohammed Deif and other southern Gaza leaders. Since 2012, Sinwar oversaw military procurement and logistics for Hamas’s armed wing, playing a pivotal role in building the group’s military infrastructure under the guidance of his brother Yahya Sinwar, Hamas’s political leader in Gaza until his own martyrdom in 2024.
