Palestinian Prisoners Subjected to Thirst Torture in Israeli Jails, Reports Reveal

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are being subjected to thirst torture and collective punishment, according to a report by the Zionist newspaper Haaretz. The report, based on human rights documentation in the occupied territories, reveals that conditions for Palestinian detainees have worsened significantly since October 7 under directives from Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.
Approximately 90% of detainees are held in spaces smaller than three square meters without beds, enduring continuous violence from guards, denial of medical care, and lack of access to fair trials. Palestinian prisoner advocacy groups report that nearly half of detained Palestinians are held without charges or trials as part of Israel’s systematic detention and torture practices.
The total number of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails has exceeded 9,300, with 49% detained without legal process. Of these, 3,350 are held under ‘administrative detention’ and 1,220, primarily from Gaza, are classified as ‘unlawful combatants’ under a special law. Israel’s administrative detention system, based on military orders that can be renewed indefinitely, relies on ‘secret files’ inaccessible to both prisoners and their lawyers, effectively denying any legal defense.
The report emphasizes that 2025 has seen a genocide against the Palestinian people, with prisons becoming arenas for organized torture. The deaths of 32 Palestinian prisoners this year demonstrate the escalating, targeted crimes against detainees and the unprecedented deterioration of conditions in occupation prisons.
