New York’s First Muslim Mayor Sworn In with Quran at Historic Ceremony

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Zahran Mammadani, New York City’s first Muslim and Democratic mayor, took the oath of office with a copy of the Quran at the historic City Hall subway station in Manhattan. The ceremony was administered by New York State Attorney General Letitia James, a political ally of Mammadani.
Mammadani, who is also the first mayor of South Asian descent and the first Africa-born mayor of New York, is set to be sworn in again at a more formal public ceremony at City Hall at 1 PM local time today. The event will be attended by U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, one of Mammadani’s political role models.
At 34 years old, Mammadani is one of the youngest mayors in New York City’s recent history. His appointment marks a significant milestone, making him one of the busiest and most popular politicians in the United States.
