Syrian Regime Claims Thwarting ISIS Plot to Attack New Year Celebrations

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Syrian regime’s Interior Ministry stated it had dismantled a terrorist plot by ISIS aimed at New Year celebrations in multiple regions. The ministry cited continuous counterterrorism efforts and intelligence collaboration with partner organizations as key to uncovering the plan, which involved suicide operations and attacks on churches and civilian gathering sites.
Preemptive security measures included reinforced protection around churches, deployment of fixed and mobile patrols, and checkpoints in various urban areas. During an inspection at the Bab al-Faraj checkpoint in Aleppo, security forces identified and engaged a suspected ISIS member, resulting in the terrorist’s death after opening fire. The assailant subsequently detonated an explosive, injuring two additional officers during the confrontation.
