Yemen’s Presidential Council Urges Transitional Council to Avoid Escalating Tensions

The Yemeni Presidential Council has called on the Southern Transitional Council to refrain from actions that could heighten tensions, following reports of military clashes in Hadhramaut.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Yemeni Presidential Council has issued a stern warning to the Southern Transitional Council (STC) against escalating tensions in the country. The appeal came hours after Yemeni state television reported that STC forces had raided Al-Rayyan Airport in Hadhramaut, looting its contents.

Abdullah Al-Alimi, a member of the Presidential Council, emphasized the need for a return to dialogue and wisdom, stating, “As the new year begins, we reaffirm that there is still an opportunity to heed the voice of reason and prevent further bloodshed. This must start with a genuine withdrawal from Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra.”

Al-Alimi addressed his counterparts in the STC, urging them to reconsider their positions and prioritize public welfare over political maneuvers. “I make a clear and fraternal appeal to our brothers in the STC, especially those pushing for escalation or continuing to deploy military forces,” he said. “They must avoid any action that could lead to further instability or complicate the situation.”

The council member warned that opening a new front of conflict would worsen Yemen’s economic, social, and humanitarian crises, exacerbating the suffering of its war-weary population.

The STC, backed by the UAE, has refused to withdraw from Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra, instead reinforcing its military presence in the region. The group has repeatedly expanded its influence in southern provinces, including Aden, Shabwa, Hadhramaut, and Al-Mahra, often clashing with forces loyal to Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
