Russia Warns of Direct Military Clash with NATO Amid Escalating Tensions

Russia’s chief arms control negotiator Yulia Zhdanova has warned that NATO’s military activities near Russian and Belarusian borders risk unpredictable escalation, including potential direct military confrontation.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russia has issued a stark warning about the growing risk of direct military conflict with NATO due to the alliance’s activities near its borders. Yulia Zhdanova, head of Russia’s delegation to the Vienna talks on arms control, told TASS news agency that NATO’s military deployments near Russia and Belarus could lead to unpredictable escalation, potentially resulting in armed confrontation.

Zhdanova stated that most countries in the West show no willingness to seriously discuss measures that could mitigate the negative consequences of such military activities. She further accused many European leaders of using Russophobia to maintain political survival and continue military support for Ukraine.

Russia maintains that NATO’s eastward expansion toward its borders caused the Ukraine conflict. The Russian delegation emphasized that NATO’s withdrawal from countries neighboring Moscow would be the most significant step alliance members could take to prevent further escalation of tensions.
