Israel Labels New York’s Muslim Mayor as ‘Anti-Semitic’ Over Reversal

Israel has strongly criticized New York City’s first Muslim mayor, Zahrann Mammadani, for revoking executive orders signed by his predecessor in support of Israel, accusing him of fueling anti-Semitism.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Israel has condemned New York City Mayor Zahrann Mammadani for rescinding two executive orders signed by former Mayor Eric Adams that expressed support for Israel. The Israeli Foreign Ministry, in a post on social media platform X, stated that Mammadani revealed his true intentions on his first day in office by disregarding the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of anti-Semitism and lifting restrictions on boycotts against Israel.

The ministry accused Mammadani of pouring gasoline on the flames of anti-Semitism, asserting that his actions do not constitute leadership. Mammadani revoked all executive orders issued by Adams following federal corruption charges against him, including one that barred city entities from boycotting or divesting from Israeli-occupied territories.

Another revoked order had adopted a broad definition of anti-Semitism based on the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s standards, which classified opposition to the Israeli regime as anti-Semitic. Critics argued that labeling criticism of Israel as anti-Semitism violates the First Amendment and freedom of speech.

Mammadani, New York’s first Muslim mayor, has repeatedly described Israel as an apartheid regime, accused it of genocide in Gaza, and called for the arrest of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
