UNIFIL Reports Israeli Army Gunfire Targeting Peacekeeping Patrols

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has disclosed two incidents involving gunfire targeting its peacekeeping patrols, suspected to have originated from the Israeli army. The first incident involved 15 rounds of light weapon fire from less than 50 meters away, followed by a second attack less than 20 minutes later, where approximately 100 rounds of heavier weapon fire were directed at another patrol in the same area. No casualties or damage resulted from either incident.
UNIFIL stated that the source of the gunfire was likely from the Israeli army’s positions south of the Blue Line. The peacekeeping force has demanded an immediate halt to such actions through its communication channels. The Israeli army had previously been informed of UNIFIL’s activities in these sensitive areas.
Expressing concern over the recurrence of such events, UNIFIL described them as a “worrying phenomenon” and emphasized that attacks on or near peacekeeping forces constitute a serious violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. UNIFIL reiterated its call for the Israeli army to cease “aggressive” actions and attacks against peacekeeping personnel and to adhere to efforts aimed at maintaining peace and stability along the Blue Line.
