Zelensky Proposes First Deputy Prime Minister as New Defense Minister

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Friday that he has proposed Mykhailo Fedorov, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation, to take over as Defense Minister. If approved by parliament, Fedorov will replace Denys Shmyhal in the role.
In his nightly address, Zelensky praised Shmyhal’s performance as Defense Minister, stating that he had “achieved good results” and would be assigned a new position in the government.
Zelensky also commended Fedorov’s expertise in drone development and digital transformation of the defense sector, adding: “Mykhailo has been deeply involved in drone projects and has effectively collaborated with the military, command structures, domestic arms industries, and Ukraine‘s partners in digitalizing government services and operations. Changes in the defense sector are necessary and must be implemented.”
Fedorov previously served as Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation and has now been nominated for the Defense Minister position. The final decision rests with the Ukrainian parliament.
