Saudi Arabia Welcomes Al-Alimi’s Proposal for Comprehensive Yemen Meeting Amid Escalating Tensions
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Saudi Arabia has welcomed Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi’s proposal for a comprehensive political meeting. The move follows Friday’s declaration by Aidarous al-Zubaidi, head of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), initiating a political process for southern Yemen’s independence.
Simultaneously, forces of the self-proclaimed government advanced in Hadhramaut, announcing plans to take control of all military bases in the region. Clashes erupted the same day between the ‘Shield of the Homeland’ forces—aligned with the self-proclaimed government—and STC troops at the Al-Khasha camp in Wadi Hadhramaut. Coalition warplanes supporting the self-proclaimed government also targeted STC positions near the camp.
These developments occurred after Al-Alimi appointed Hadhramaut’s governor as commander of all ‘Shield of the Homeland’ forces in the province—a decision met with STC opposition and refusal to withdraw its forces from Hadhramaut.
