A powerful 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck southern Mexico, triggering 936 aftershocks and causing significant damage to infrastructure, while rescue teams struggle with ongoing tremors.
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake has jolted southern Mexico, resulting in 936 aftershocks, some as strong as 4.7 magnitude. The quake caused buildings to collapse, downed power lines and trees, and disrupted electricity networks.
Rescue operations are underway, but continuous aftershocks have complicated efforts. The tremor occurred during a press conference by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, forcing its abrupt suspension.
The German Research Centre for Geosciences reported the quake struck at 10:07 local time, while the U.S. Geological Survey noted its shallow depth of 10 kilometers. Residents of Guerrero and surrounding areas reported intense shaking.
