Turkish Airlines to Build World’s Largest Cargo Terminal with $2.3 Billion Investment

According to the Economic Desk of Webangah News Agency, Turkish Airlines revealed plans to build the world’s largest cargo terminal with an investment of 100 billion Turkish lira (approximately $2.3 billion). The project is anticipated to generate around 26,000 new employment opportunities, though the exact location has not been officially confirmed. Industry speculation points to Istanbul, Turkey’s aviation hub and home to two major international airports, as the probable site.
The airline currently transports over 85 million passengers and approximately 2 million tons of cargo annually. With its extensive flight network, Turkish Airlines plays a crucial role in connecting Turkey to global markets.
Bilal Ekşi, CEO of Turkish Airlines, stated the company aims to rank among the world’s top five airlines by 2033. Its fleet expansion plan includes reaching 813 aircraft, with nearly 600 already ordered. These new planes are expected to join the fleet within the next 10-12 years. By the end of 2025, Turkish Airlines’ fleet will comprise 514 aircraft, currently ranking ninth globally in fleet size.
The airline also holds the record for serving the most international destinations worldwide, flying to 356 locations across 132 countries. Passenger numbers for the first 11 months of 2025 reached 85.3 million, an 8.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024, surpassing the airline’s total passenger count for all of 2024.
