Iraq’s Sadr Movement and Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq React to Suspicious Assassination in Maysan

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraqi media reported that Hussein al-Alaq, a senior commander of the Saraya al-Salam, linked to the Sadr Movement, was assassinated by unidentified gunmen in the Al-Mualimeen neighborhood of Maysan province in southern Iraq.
Sources close to the Sadr Movement stated that armed clashes erupted between Saraya al-Salam and Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq forces following the incident. Subsequently, an Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq headquarters in the Al-Kahla area of Maysan was targeted.
Iraqi security forces imposed a curfew in Maysan, while al-Alaq’s brother urged restraint among Saraya al-Salam members during a speech at a mosque, warning against involvement in “sedition plots.”
Sadr Movement leader Muqtada al-Sadr condemned the incident in a statement on social media platform X, stating, “The recklessness of militias has reached a point where they shed Iraqi blood without restraint or respect for sanctities, especially in Maysan.” He emphasized the need for legal action to uncover the perpetrators and prevent further bloodshed.
Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq Secretary-General Qais al-Khazali also issued a statement, denouncing attempts to incite discord in Maysan and calling for adherence to the rule of law. He warned against those threatening internal peace and endangering civilians.
