US Congresswoman Accuses Trump Administration of Using Drug War as Pretext for Venezuela Oil Grab

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claims the US attack on Venezuela was aimed at regime change and oil control, not drug trafficking, citing Trump’s recent pardon of a major drug lord as evidence.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has asserted that the recent American military action against Venezuela was motivated by desires for political change and control over the country’s oil reserves, with drug enforcement serving merely as a pretext.

In a post on X, the New York representative stated: ‘This isn’t about drugs. If it were, Trump wouldn’t have pardoned one of the world’s biggest drug traffickers last month. This is about oil and regime change.’

Regarding the potential prosecution of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, Ocasio-Cortez added: ‘Now they’ll stage a trial for Maduro to pretend otherwise. Their real aim is to divert attention from the Epstein case and skyrocketing healthcare costs.’

The accusations follow last night’s US military operation against Venezuela, conducted under the guise of anti-drug efforts, which resulted in the abduction of the South American nation’s president.

Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek Saab condemned the kidnapping, demanding Maduro’s immediate release and holding the US government responsible for the safety of both the president and his wife. Saab called on Venezuelan officials to document human rights abuses during the American operation and urged direct intervention by the UN and human rights organizations.
