US Congress Members Condemn Trump’s Military Action in Venezuela as Unconstitutional

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Democratic Senator Jack Reed, Vice Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has accused President Donald Trump of initiating an unauthorized war against Venezuela. Reed described the move as a severe constitutional failure, emphasizing that only Congress holds the authority to declare war, not the president.
Reed further warned that unilateral and violent regime changes undermine the international order, which the US relies on to condemn actions like the occupation of Ukraine and to deter China. Meanwhile, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley labeled the bombing of Venezuela and the abduction of President Maduro as clear violations of both US and international law.
Pressley argued that Trump’s actions endanger American lives, destabilize the region, and incur billions in costs. She urged Congress to end this endless war and hold Trump accountable. Congresswoman Sara Jacobs echoed these concerns, stating that abducting Maduro under the pretext of regime change would neither protect Americans nor curb drug trafficking.
Jacobs condemned the operation as a breach of US and international laws, criticizing Trump for dragging the US into an unnecessary and costly war despite his campaign promises to end foreign conflicts. She noted that Trump has failed to learn from past foreign policy failures and is now repeating the worst of them.
Jacobs also revealed that the Senate will vote next week on a resolution to block any unauthorized US military action against Venezuela. Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury joined the chorus, calling the military operation illegal and urging her colleagues to act swiftly to restrain President Trump.
