Elon Musk’s Starlink Offers Free Internet Services in Venezuela Amid Political Turmoil

According to the Economic Desk of Webangah News Agency, Elon Musk announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Starlink will provide free broadband services to Venezuelans until February 3, ensuring continuous connectivity. The announcement comes amid escalating tensions in Venezuela after U.S. military intervention led to the abduction of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, who were subsequently transported to the United States.
CNN reported that Venezuela’s Supreme Court has addressed the leadership vacuum by ordering Vice President Delcy Rodríguez to assume temporary presidential powers following Maduro’s capture. The court ruled late Saturday that Maduro is “temporarily and materially unable to fulfill his duties.”
John Bolton, former U.S. National Security Advisor, revealed in a CNN interview that a strategy to remove Maduro was presented during Donald Trump’s first presidential term. However, the plan stalled as Trump’s administration failed to maintain focus on the issue. Bolton noted Trump’s strong interest in Venezuela’s oil reserves but acknowledged the lack of sustained attention to ousting Maduro.
