Saudi-Backed Forces Take Control of Al-Mukla in Southern Yemen

Saudi-affiliated forces have seized control of Al-Mukla in southern Yemen, marking a significant shift in the ongoing power struggle between Saudi Arabia and the UAE for influence in the region.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Saudi-backed forces, known as the Homeland Shield, have taken control of Al-Mukla in southern Yemen. Reports indicate that these forces have now deployed across the city’s streets.

The so-called Yemeni Leadership Council, aligned with Saudi Arabia, announced yesterday that the forces achieved an exceptional success in retaking military and security positions in the Hadhramaut province of eastern Yemen. The council’s head stated that preparations are underway to hand over government facilities in Al-Mahra province to the Homeland Shield forces.

He further urged the Southern Transitional Council (STC) to remain committed to dialogue and refrain from unilateral actions. This development follows the Saudi-backed forces’ capture of Seiyun, the administrative and military center of Hadhramaut, last Friday, which forced Emirati-backed STC forces to retreat toward the coastal strip.

Seiyun plays a pivotal role in the power balance in eastern Yemen, and its control could significantly impact the political and security dynamics in the country’s south. Southern Yemen has been a battleground for Saudi Arabia and the UAE, both vying for political and military influence. The UAE has strengthened its presence in Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra by supporting the STC, leading to increased tensions and complicating efforts to stabilize Yemen and resolve its crisis politically.
