New Candidate Emerges for Iraq’s Prime Minister Position as Political Alliances Shift

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraqi political circles are abuzz with reports of a new prime ministerial candidate emerging from the dominant Coordination Framework alliance. Multiple media outlets claim the coalition has largely agreed to nominate Basim Al-Badri, current head of Iraq’s Accountability and Justice Commission, for the position.
Political sources suggest Al-Badri’s nomination is being championed by former Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki, with whom he shares affiliation to the Islamic Dawa Party. This development comes as current Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani reportedly lacks sufficient support for a second term, despite earlier speculation about Al-Maliki’s own potential candidacy.
However, the Sumaria News outlet reports significant opposition to Al-Badri’s nomination among Shia political groups, who allege connections between the candidate and foreign intelligence services as well as corruption cases. All claims regarding the nomination remain unconfirmed at this stage, with the Coordination Framework yet to make any official announcement about their preferred candidate.
