Colombian President Gustavo Petro Responds to Trump’s Threats: ‘Do Not Challenge a Fighter’

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has declared his readiness to take up arms in defense of his country following threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, while also urging soldiers who prefer the American flag to leave the military.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Colombian President Gustavo Petro has issued a strong response to recent threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, stating he is prepared to take up arms to defend his nation despite his personal aversion to violence. Petro, who had sworn never to bear arms again after the end of Colombia’s civil wars, emphasized, ‘Do not challenge a fighter to war.’

Addressing Colombia’s armed forces, Petro further asserted that any soldier who prioritizes the American flag over Colombia’s should resign from the military. The Colombian Foreign Ministry has also condemned Trump’s remarks as unacceptable interference, calling for mutual respect between the two nations.

Despite being key military and economic allies in the region, Colombia-U.S. relations have grown increasingly strained since the start of Trump’s second presidential term, particularly over issues such as tariffs and immigration policies. Trump recently suggested that military intervention in Colombia, similar to actions taken in Venezuela, could be considered, calling it ‘a good idea.’
