44 Candidates Register for Iraq’s Presidential Election as Deadline Closes

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraq‘s Parliament Speaker Haitham al-Halbousi confirmed that 44 candidates have officially registered for the country’s presidential election, with Monday marking the final day for submissions. The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan has put forward Nizar Amidi, Iraq’s former Environment Minister, as their exclusive candidate for the presidency.
Karwan Gaznay, spokesperson for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, stated the union unanimously selected Amidi as their presidential nominee. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party has nominated Fuad Hussein for the presidency. The election comes amid heightened political activity in Iraq as various factions position their candidates for the crucial leadership role.
