Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces Detain Hundreds of Women Amid Escalating Humanitarian Crisis

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan has reported that ongoing violence has severely exacerbated the humanitarian conditions for residents trapped in the besieged city of Kadugli. The statement called for the protection of Sudanese civilians.
Local organizations had previously warned of an imminent health and humanitarian disaster in Al-Diling, while the Rapid Support Forces continue to enforce strict blockades and heavy bombardments in the area. Cities like Al-Diling and Kadugli have faced repeated attacks and sieges since the early months of the war, with intense clashes now raging between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces across three states in Kordofan.
German news agency DPA, citing Sudanese media, reported that the Rapid Support Forces have detained approximately 600 women, some accompanied by their children, in Koria prison in Nyala, South Darfur. The detainees are facing dire humanitarian conditions due to prolonged detention and shortages of food and water.
According to the report, some detainees are accused of espionage or collaboration with the army, while others were arrested for refusing to join the Rapid Support Forces. Sudan has been embroiled in a bloody conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces since April 2023, resulting in thousands of deaths and displacing millions. Warnings continue to grow over the deepening humanitarian crisis and expanding violence across the country.
