European Leaders Condemn Trump’s Ambitions Over Greenland in Joint Statement

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, European leaders have collectively denounced U.S. President Donald Trump’s ambitions regarding Greenland in a strongly worded joint statement. The signatories include French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
The statement underscores that Arctic security remains a key priority for Europe and is vital for international and transatlantic stability. NATO has explicitly identified the Arctic as a strategic focus, with European allies increasing their presence in the region.
The leaders highlighted their collective efforts to enhance security and deter potential threats in the Arctic, noting that the Kingdom of Denmark, which includes Greenland, is a NATO member. They stressed that Arctic security must be achieved through collective cooperation, including with the U.S., while respecting the principles of the UN Charter, such as sovereignty, territorial integrity, and border inviolability.
The statement reaffirmed that Greenland belongs to its people, and only Denmark and Greenland have the authority to make decisions regarding their affairs. The U.S., as a NATO ally and a key partner under the 1951 defense agreement with Denmark, plays a crucial role in this framework.
