Russia Questions if Canada is Next After Greenland in Geopolitical Tensions

A senior Russian official hinted at potential geopolitical shifts, questioning whether Canada could follow Greenland amid escalating tensions, as U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks on territorial interests continue to stir controversy.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian President’s special representative for foreign investment and economic cooperation and a key negotiator in Ukraine crisis talks, suggested in a social media post that a decision regarding Greenland may have already been made. The senior Moscow negotiator further raised the question: “Is Canada the next country?”

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen previously addressed U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats to occupy Greenland, warning that such threats against a NATO member by another alliance member could undermine the organization’s foundations. Frederiksen stated any U.S. military action against Greenland would halt all NATO operations and dismantle Western security systems.

President Trump recently told The Atlantic that after Venezuela, the U.S. also needs Greenland, suggesting Caracas might not be the last target of Washington’s interventions. Denmark has repeatedly affirmed Greenland remains under its sovereignty.
