Somalia Vows Response to Israel’s Provocative Actions Over Somaliland Recognition

Somalia’s representative to the African Union condemned Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as illegal, warning of imminent retaliatory measures against what Mogadishu calls a violation of its sovereignty.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Somalia has declared Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as an illegal act and strongly condemned the visit of Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar to Hargeisa. The Somali representative to the African Union told Al Jazeera that Mogadishu will take all necessary measures in response to Israel’s provocative actions, with all options on the table.

The official stated that Israel’s presence in Somalia poses a serious threat not only to Mogadishu but also to regional stability, particularly concerning the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Suez Canal. The representative further warned that Israel’s actions could embolden terrorist groups like Al-Shabaab, emphasizing that Somalia’s allies stand in full solidarity against Israeli aggression.

A diplomatic source in Somaliland confirmed that Sa’ar arrived in Hargeisa on Tuesday morning for his first official visit since Israel recognized the breakaway region’s sovereignty. During the trip, he is expected to meet with Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi.
