European Leaders and US Envoy Emphasize Security Guarantees for Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron announced that 35 countries in the ‘Volunteer Coalition’ have approved strong security guarantees for Ukraine, while the US special envoy highlighted progress in advancing peace plans.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, French President Emmanuel Macron declared that 35 member states of the ‘Volunteer Coalition’ have endorsed robust security guarantees for Ukraine. Macron emphasized that these guarantees are fundamental to any agreement to ensure Ukraine is not forced into surrender. He also stressed the need to continue sanctions against Russia to limit its ability to finance the war.

Meanwhile, France, the UK, and Ukraine signed a declaration on the potential future deployment of multinational forces in Ukraine. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated that Ukraine will require extensive security guarantees post-war to deter further Russian aggression, adding that while ending the war is a priority, Russia currently rejects peace.

US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff confirmed that the American delegation in Paris met with representatives of the Volunteer Coalition and Ukrainian officials to advance President Trump’s peace plan for Ukraine. Witkoff noted significant progress on security guarantees, reconstruction, and welfare plans, with talks set to continue in the coming days.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described security guarantees as critical, stating that Ukraine has never been an obstacle to peace, unlike Russia. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the coalition talks highly constructive, affirming Britain’s commitment to ceasefire monitoring mechanisms led by the US. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz described the coalition meeting as a step toward peace, pledging continued financial, political, and military support for Ukraine.
