US Imposes $15,000 Visa Bond Requirement for Algerian Applicants

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the United States has implemented a $15,000 visa bond requirement for Algerian applicants under its tightened visa policies. The measure, effective from January 21, 2026, now includes 25 more countries from Africa, Asia, and Latin America, bringing the total to 38 nations subject to the bond.
U.S. officials stated that the bond aims to prevent visa violations and ensure timely departures. The amount is refundable if the visa is denied or if the holder complies with regulations and exits on time. This policy is part of broader restrictions, including mandatory in-person interviews, social media activity reviews, and detailed travel and residence histories for applicants and their families.
Experts warn that the new requirement could make U.S. visas prohibitively expensive, particularly for citizens of developing countries.
