EU’s Borrell Declares U.S. No Longer Europe’s Primary Ally Amid Rising Tensions

Josep Borrell, the EU’s former foreign policy chief, stated that the United States can no longer be considered Europe’s main ally, emphasizing the need for European nations to ensure their security independently.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Josep Borrell, the former European Union foreign policy chief, has declared that the United States is no longer the primary ally of the European Union. Borrell highlighted that Americans can no longer rely on Europeans as the continent faces new geopolitical realities.

Borrell stressed that European countries must now secure their own safety using domestic resources and capabilities. He referenced U.S. threats against Greenland, questioning how Europe should respond if American troops were stationed there. “Some are pleased that U.S. President Donald Trump has taken on the role of global policeman,” Borrell said. “But if U.S. Marines deploy to Greenland, what should we do? Should we simply say territorial integrity must be respected?”

The expansionist approach of the current U.S. administration, which has openly advocated for the annexation of autonomous regions or even independent countries, has particularly alarmed Western governments. Trump has previously expressed intentions to incorporate Greenland and Canada into U.S. territory.
