Israel’s Continued Airstrikes on Southern Lebanon: Motives and Consequences

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Israeli regime has intensified its airstrikes on southern and eastern Lebanon, violating the ceasefire established in November 2024. The attacks, which Israel claims targeted Hezbollah and Hamas infrastructure, have resulted in civilian casualties, including the bombing of a residential building in the industrial town of Siniq near Sidon, killing two and injuring several others.
Israel alleges it has killed two Hezbollah members and damaged some of the group’s infrastructure. However, these strikes are seen as part of a broader strategy to pressure Lebanon into disarming Hezbollah ahead of critical discussions on Western-backed disarmament plans. The timing of the attacks suggests an attempt to weaken Hezbollah’s position and force it into a defensive stance.
The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah has been repeatedly violated by Israeli drone strikes and assassinations, undermining Lebanon’s sovereignty and escalating regional tensions. Analysts argue that Israel’s military aggression, rather than achieving its objectives, has only strengthened the resolve of resistance groups. Hezbollah and Hamas, deeply rooted in their communities, continue to garner support despite the attacks, leveraging asymmetric warfare tactics to counter Israel’s superior conventional military power.
Historical patterns indicate that Israel’s heavy-handed approach often backfires, fueling further resistance. The destruction of civilian infrastructure and loss of life have only intensified regional hostility toward Israel, complicating its long-term strategic goals. With no viable political solution in sight, the cycle of violence in Lebanon and Gaza is likely to persist, further destabilizing the region.
