Hezbollah Lawmaker Condemns Lebanese Foreign Minister’s Claims on Disarmament

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Lebanon‘s Foreign Minister, Youssef Ragi, has claimed that the primary focus of the government is the disarmament of Hezbollah, stating that the Lebanese Army is prepared to militarily confront the group if necessary. Ragi made these remarks during an interview with the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, alleging a national consensus that Hezbollah is an illegal military organization that must be disbanded.
Ragi argued that while Hezbollah is free to engage in political activities, it should not possess illegal weapons. He also discussed Lebanon’s official stance on pursuing peace with all nations, including Israel, contingent on the acceptance of the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, which advocates for a two-state solution.
In response, Hassan Fadlallah, a member of Lebanon’s Loyalty to the Resistance bloc, sharply criticized Ragi, accusing him of failing to distinguish between his role as a cabinet member and his alleged allegiance to wartime factions. Fadlallah claimed Ragi remains entrenched in a war mentality, inherited from his political upbringing, which he said specialized in targeting Lebanon’s national army and its people.
